There’s nothing that screams summer more than fresh, ripe strawberries! One of my go-to ways to enjoy berries is in this strawberry agua fresca, which is a popular drink in Mexico. It’s quick to put together, and is always a hit at any gathering.

Strawberry Agua Fresca Ingredients

Strawberries, sugar, limes, water and mint.

To make this recipe, you will need fresh strawberries, water, fresh lime juice and sugar. You can garnish your drink with additional berries, lime slices and mint sprigs if you like.

How Do You Make Strawberry Agua Fresca?

Place the berries, lime juice, sugar and some water in a blender. Blend until you have a puree. Pour the puree through a strainer into a large pitcher, and discard any solids that remain in the strainer. Add more water to the pitcher, then stir to combine. Chill the agua fresca until you’re ready to serve it. You can add sliced berries, limes and mint leaves right before serving.

Tips For The Reliable Drink

  • Fresh strawberries work finest in this drink. While you can use frozen berries, you’ll need to thaw them first and also add more sugar.
  • Strawberry agua fresca will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the finest results.
  • It’s important to pour the strawberry puree through a sieve or strainer, otherwise you may end up with a lot of seeds in your drink.

Quick Tip

No blender on hand? You can also use a food processor to blend the strawberries.

Flavor Variations

While this strawberry agua fresca is tasty as it is written, you can easily customize the flavors to your tastes.

  • Fruit: Try using a different type of fruit such as watermelon, cucumbers, mango, pineapple or cantaloupe.
  • Sparkling: Swap out the water for sparkling water for a less authentic, but still tasty option.
  • Cocktail: Turn this mocktail into a cocktail by adding 1/2 cup of tequila, vodka or rum.
